Just melted some rust from a pump action colt 22 that was in my uncle's barn for as long as i can remember.(this isn't a dear penthouse story). I dont know much about it but I discovered stampings of ser/13817 patented may29 sep 18.83:may28-85(sic)june15.86 feb 22.87. What do I have here?

Without digging mine out from the back of a safe to double check the patent dates, I think you have a Colt Lightning .22. Made from 1887-1904. Yours would have been made in 1890. About 90,000 made. BTW, welcome to the forum!!

Welcome aboard. For no fee you can call Colt, give them your serial number and they will give you the manufacturing date and what it is. 1-800-962-COLT

Welcome to the Forum! I agree with Chaffee, its probably a Colt Lightning .22, but I dont know very much about the old Colt Long Guns.
"Laws that forbid the carrying of arms... disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit such crimes... such laws make things worse for the assualted and better for the assailants: they serve rather to encourage than prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man" Thomas Jefferson quoting Cesare Beccaria NRA Life Member
