Hi,
just found this site lookin for info on the 1884 SAA 1119xxx 7 1/2 cav we found in the rafters of my late grandfathers house
gun was my grandfathers father in laws a civle war vet we are still trying to find out why he had it. we also found a mint condition Springfield 45-70 gov trapdoor with it.
Already did the colt arcive just says it was one of 150 shipped to Gov in October 1884.
Guns are in amazing shape , with all the cartuoch visable only one draw back on Colt my granddad blew the frame covering the case hardening patina.
We belive he might have been in the miltia as the guns have no ware on them , but we dont understand the issue of such guns and how he was able to keep them after his service.
does any one hear have any info on how men were allowed to keep there firearms.
