Hello and welcome to the Forum. Love to see some pictures of the engraving. You may want to post them on the appropriate forum here. Glad you're here.
I thought I would introduce myself. I don't consider myself a Colt collector, but over the years I seem to have acquired a lot of Colt firearms. My oldest is an 1860 Army. My "newest" is a pre-ban AR15 SP1. In between are an 1878 12 gauge, M1911 "brushed blue", M1911 Black Army, commercial Govt Model (1911A1) from 1927, and an Official Police 38 special from 1932. I'm in the research profession. For fun I like to research and document the items in my collection on web pages so I can enjoy them without opening up the safe. I joined this forum to tap into the knowledge that is inherent in the membership. Hopefully I can provide some data that others can use as well. To start, I'm hoping to see if the Colt factory engraver of my Model 1878 shotgun can be identified by studying the engraving. I have a Colt letter stating the gun is factory engraved, but the engraver is not identified.

Thanks for the welcome. I would assume that I should post them in the long guns forum?

"Laws that forbid the carrying of arms... disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit such crimes... such laws make things worse for the assualted and better for the assailants: they serve rather to encourage than prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man" Thomas Jefferson quoting Cesare BeccariaNRA Life Member
