I did a web search on large capacity magazines for a Colt 1991 45. The largest I found was a 15-round ProMag. Never heard of the company. Do these work well? Is 15 rounds as large as it gets?

I have 2 of the wilson 10 round one's and they don't work.
Desertfox,

I would be more than happy to take those crappy Wilson 10 round mags off your hands. :) Send me a PM with a price.

It has been my experience with 1911 mags that Wilson, McCormick, Metalform, and MecGar make high quality mags. There may be others, but these work for me. I have had good luck with certain government contract 7-round mags, but you have to be choosy about who made them.

I had the pro mag 15 rounder and it was possibly the biggest pile of crap I have ever seen. The weld on the back of the mag was sloppy, and the follower was a rough piece of unfinished plastic that would hang up in the magazine body. It was unreliable and promptly returned. As far as 10 rounders go the Chip McCormic power mag is an excellent magazine, which only protrudes about an inch or two.

most of the high capacity mags for 1911s are junk, but i'm surprised about the comment regarding the wilson mags not working. wilson's are usually regarded as the best and the mccormicks are decent too.
other than them my advice is avoid the other high cap 1911 mags.

I have a 10 round McCormick magazine..I think it's called the "Bureaucrat". It's worked for me for years. I use it as a magazine to load single rounds into the chamber for IDPA before loading an IDPA legal 8 round mag, and for range work.

I have a no name (possibly pro mag) blue steel 12 or 13 round magazine that has never fed right if loaded with over 9 rounds.

I'll stick with Wilson/Combat mags and practice my reloads.

Not sure anyone has a 15 round magazine that Colt would consider 100% reliable. They ship Chip McCormick's Shooting Star magaines with every Special Combat Government in 8 round configuration. I decided to try their 10 round magazine and the functionality is faultless! I opted for the "Chip McCormick Stainless Steel Power Mag+" and never regretted it.
