an uberti 73 with the look of an old original colt

    Hi all

I have some original colt as 1911 , 1873 ,detective special, but recently I have purchased a brand new uberti 73 just for fun shooting , I like to work on metal and I had in mind to give to this pistol an old look , i had as example an original old colt 1873 .

Sry I know it is not a Colt but everybody at the gun club ask me if it is an original... what do you think ? sry for the non professional pictures

    Ciao Riccardo

It looks great. And itdoesn't have the stupid hammer safty. I don't like the way they put the caliber markings on the barrel, but no big deal. ."45 Colt" would do. Those grips are killer! Did they come from Italy that way?

yes the pistol left the factory with that grip , they are unusual on a standard pistol , but it was painted with the normal bright acrylic paint , I take out it and gave a linsed oil with very fine steel wool. . I take out the original finishing on the metal with vinegar and reblack again using the product on the steel wool ( the finer one ) in this case you can decide where to give more or less the finishing , you have to do this in different steps, the pistol look brownish more or less like an original old one , and it also shoot really well .

I didn't notice you were in Italy. Great to see you here. There sure are some great gunmakers there. I read somewhere that a lot og gunmakers are in the same area. Is that true?

    Hi

yes the gun manufactures are all situated in the same area , GARDONE VALTROMPIA , near brescia , it is a small town in the north of Italy , all the area there it is based on gun business , there are big manufacture as Beretta , Benelli , Uberti , pedersoli , ecc.. but there are also a lot of small company ,sometime family company where they produce theyr own guns or part of them as barrels , or small components for the production of guns of the big company. Take also in consideration that Beretta was created on 1526 in that area so you can understand the long historical tradition on the production of firearms in that area.

Uberti puts some nice wood on their revolvers. Here's my 22rf with the factory grips, they are not as nice as Ricardo's, but still look pretty good:

    Very Cool!

Hello grandO....you did a nice job on your gun...I have a Ruger Vaquero I did the same thing to since it's my "play" gun. The big change on mine was to remove the "warning" information on the barrel.
