Hopalong's Winchester thread motivated this one. Here is a rare pre-64 Winchester Model 88 in .284 Win. caliber. A short action round that swears it's a .280 or .270. 1963 first year production. Below that is another Model 88 from 1958 in the uncommon .243. Most of these detachable mag. Winchesters were in .308. My dad carried that .284 all over the west and it was his favorite gun. It is priceless to me.

Great rifles! Love the notion of .284 Winchester. I had the chance to work with a fellow's .284 Model 88 once. He complained that it would no longer shoot. Had the worst fouled barrel I ever saw. After cleaning it shot great. An interesting design. Shame it was expensive to produce. That's the way with the good ones.
