Great 9mm, I am looking for a shooter for myself. I have bought and sold many 39s over the years. Yeah, I am stupid for not keeping one right. Good luck with your Smith, it fits great in the hand. I have never seen a one in nickel though.

I found this thirty two year old S&W Model 39-2 out here locally. I checked the ad just to see if it happened to be nickel which I knew it wouldn't be, and it was! The nickel ain't perfect, it might be considered a very fine shooter grade gun with battered box, papers, and tools. This is about as modern as I care to get. I guess I have another holster to make.

Good guns; that should be an excellent shooter. And I think it will probably clean up pretty respectably. Congrats!

Congratulations. The 39-2 is my favorite 9mm. Maybe my favorite semi-auto. I've owned three, and foolishly traded two of them off for something or other that I wanted more at the time. This one is going to stay.
Finding a nickel one, wouldn't hurt my feelings.![]()

Thanks. Ive been getting great feedback on this gun all over the place. I was worried about something I read about long ago but couldn't remember and then someone reminded me about the first model 39's had a problem with the extractors but that was remedied with the 39-2. I'm feeling good about this one and can't wait until my waiting period is over to try it out. Yours looks really immaculate. What year is it?
Hi Wyatt Burp;
Love that nickel Model 39. Cajun Bass's blued one ain't half bad either. Used to play with a cousin's Model 39 30-something years ago. It shot great.
The Model 39 has long been a pistol that I've felt I ought to get. It hasn't made the "want list" but is a good looking, good shooting alternative to the polymer DAO stuff seen these days, so I ought to get one. The Model 39 has a timeless appearance. Part of the reason it looks so fine is that it doesn't have the abomination of a finger rest on the front of the trigger guard or forward slide serrations. These "new crop" semi-autos are terminally struck with ugliness and don't serve any purpose that the traditional older designs can equally accomplish.
Wyatt,
Congrats! Great little gun and I know you got it at a good price. I bet with a little Flitz that pistol will look close to new again.
You have to wait 10 days right?
I've never seen it at a store. Flanman was nice enough to send me some to try out. He actually sent me the whole kit that comes with wax and some other stuff. I love it. You can use Mothers Mag polish as well. I've used that in the past. It's a little pastier and not as easy to use as Flitz in my opinion (Flitz comes in a tube) but it will do the job and you can find it in any auto parts store.
It's not quite immaculate, but it's close. There is a bit of blue worn at the muzzle is all. It was made in 1971.
The 39 (no dash) did have some problems with the extractor, and with feeding HP ammo. Rather it was as bad as you sometime read I don't know. AFAIK, all three of the ones I've owned were -2's. I don't know that I've ever had one to jam. Ever.
You should be able to find Flitz in a lot of places that sell cleaning supplies (think silver polish). I've used it to smooth fiberglass boat decks. I got the tube I've got now at my LGS.
One other thing. If you're looking for a holster, think Colt Commander. In my experience, most that fit a Commander, will fit a 39-2.
