A while back this walked into the shop. It was a 45 built by a local gunsmith that sent it out unfinished.
I picked it up for $600 'as is' since I spent a lot of time figuring out all the things that weren't finished or done in a shoddy, butchered manner.
I have always wanted to build a carry comp just like this. Standard length, including the comp, it fits in every carry holster I have.
Here's what was fixed to make his unique 45 a real silk purse.
1. Front sight was replaced and the dovetail recut.
2. Barrel lockup cleaned up and fit to slide.
3. Tooling marks for the ramped barrel removed and polished.
3. Cast barrel link replaced with a stainless Pachmayr Wide Link, barrel cut for fit and the frame opened to accept.
4. Wilson Extended Slide Release replace the shoddy fitted Pachmayr Extended.(What a waste of a fine part)
5. Wilson Commander hammer to replace a half cut unpolished government hammer.
6. Bobbed grip safety(what the heck was he thinking?) with a Brown Wide.
7. Plastic Mainspring housing replaced with a S&A checkered flat.
8. Standard Mag Release replaced with a Brown Extended SS Capped Magazine Release.
9. Sear and Disconnecter replaced with Wilson Bulletproof sear/disconnecter. Sear to hammer fit for #3 trigger pull.
10. Aftermarket 'modified' trigger replaced with a Brown.
11. Wilson Tactical Ambi-safety installed.
12. All surface contact areas polished.
13. Pachmayr 'mudflap' replacing the plunger tube.
