Thanks for the information. What does Federal advertise the velocity at?
FYI, if anyone's interested...
Chronographed some Federal LSWCHP+P ( Federal 38G ) fired from a 6" New Service. Velocities ranged from 885 fps to 920 fps. I'll try 2" (DS) and 4" (OP) next trip...

D.A.V.
I have been working with a chronograph lately. I read in the 1972 Colt catalog that for ammo in the 750 to 1000 FPS range that a 1 in. change in barrel length amounts to about 30 FPS. Many factors come into play but that figure is close. I am going to use 20 FPS per inch because that is what I am noticing out of my Colts (maybe because of the tighter bores are giving higher pressure and velocity?). So the OP will average about 860 and the DS will average about 820. I am shooting lots of cast bullet 158 SWC ammo in this range with 5.2 grains unique out of my 6 in. Officers model (900 FPS) and 4 in. Trooper/Official police (860). Its a little heavy on my hand for extended range sessions with the Detective Special but 3 or 4 cylinders are fine.
