Range Report: 50yds .44mag Anaconda (no rest)

    Greetings!

I've been away for awhile, hadn't been shooting much, money ya know. Anyway, I've been able to go shooting more lately and I am working my way back up to shooting 100 yards again.

12 shots in 3 shot groupings from my .44mag Anaconda at 50 yards using a Modified Weaver stance (no rests). 1st three shot group is in red, 2nd is green, 3rd is blue & 4th is yellow:

    Shot factory WWB .44mags.

Overall, I'm pleased with the results. My goal is to someday get all 12 shots with in the 9 ring at 100yds with no rest...but that will take some doing, if it's even possible for me to do, lol. Intermediate goal is to do it at 50yds, and looks like I'm pretty close to that now.

Start Reloading! And when you get hooked by the savings, then start casting your own bullets. You will be able to shoot that toy for about 1/10 the cost of factory when you include casting with reloading. You can talor your load to whatever amount of recoil you want to deal with. No need to buy 44 special ammo as you can download 44 magnum to 44 special velocities for fun plinking. If you start casting I recommend the Lyman 429421 Keith bullet as a plain base lead bullet or if you are always shooting full power loads then the gas check 429244 bullet may work best.

I have a reloader, an XL650. I used to reload 9mm & .44spl but even that go too expensive for me for awhile.

Have thought about reloading again, this time .44mag, but I currently live in a small apartment and space is a major issue.

Though you enjoyed yourself, This won't do! You will have to reload some more or buy more ammo and keep practicing until it's perfect. I'll find a doctor around here that will write you a prescription so you won't get any arguments about spending the money!

Put those groups on a four-legged, antlered animal. Pretty nice.
    Stay safe,

Fortunately, I'm single and only have to answer to myself (well, to the bills too). But I agree, practice practice practice

    Thanks!

What is a realistic grouping goal at 50yds and 100yds shooting while standing with no rest?

Pretty darn good for 50 yards off hand ,especially those 3 marked in green. I really like the Anaconda the best 44 magnum I've ever shot.

You're seriously ready for Deer Season with shooting like that.

50 yds, no rest, that's good shooting right there. I know guys that couldn't do that well with their 30-30.

    Present company excluded of course.

    hehe

I went to the range yesterday as well. Mostly to try out my new-to-me 10/22, but while there I shot off another 12 rounds with my Anaconda at 50 yards, no rest. Didn't do as well as the previous week, but not too bad, considering I did it at the end of a 5 hour range day.
