    Bullet and powder tips

I have a AWA 1873 45 colt 5 1/2 " barrel I finally thought id reload for. Redding dies. New to pistol loading but 20 years plus playing with rifle loading

Any one use these? Friend that cast gave me a bunch (free) to try. From Lee Mold 45 cal 230gr tumble lube.

Where would you crimp these? between top two ribs or above just above top rib.

Can you guys advive on some powder and charge recommendations safe for my AWA 1873 SAA 45colt ?

Got some bluedot, herco, unique, 4756 etc. I heard 7 gr unique is good n light, You guys like the slower bluedot?

I also have some hornaday 250 gr XTP jacketed coming on the Browm Truck, and I will try these 230 gr Lee Mold bullets

    thanks

First off, them look like 45 ACP Bullets NOT 45 Colt. I would personally use Clays or IMR PB powder for clean burning. Unique is nice, but dirty in comparison. I believe ALL handgun bullets should have a moderate crimp for uniformity in ignition and to keep the bullet from jumping forward and preventing the cylinder from turning in revolvers or expanding in magazines causing jams.

230 grain ACP bullets tend to be long in the nose so you might have to seat them deeper in the case than a normal 45 Colt slug. They might stick out the end of the cylinder. Try one before you load up a bunch and watch the over all length.

Yep, I was concerned about the COL .
These 230 Lees might need to be sized too, but I need to do some more research. Measured the cylinder throats of my AWA cylinder and they are .452. These lee casts are .454 +/-

I will load some hornadays when they arrive.

Any tips on some cast bullets I should order, cheap is good!
