OUTSTANDING ! I love Range Reports.![]()
Well I could never bring myself to shoot my Model o1918. However now that I have acquired a Model o1911 also I figured one of them just has to be fired. My FFL and I have a tradition that if I get a gun shipped in he gets first shot( we use his ammo of course). Since I did not take the Model 01918 it was easy to decide which one to shoot. All this time I wanted the Model o1911 because I thought I liked the Carbonia Blue better; well turns out I like the Black finish better so happily I agreed to shoot his ammo. First couple of magazines hit the target but no good groupings. Occ center but nothing impressive. Finally took a deep breath, proper stance, positioned trigger finger properly and from 20+yards out standing freearm put seven shots in a 3in group. Not bad for a gun that has a reputation for not being able to hit the side of a barn during WWI.
Now for the cleaning report- OUCH more than one sharp edge got me. Surprised by the number of burs present and the roughness inside. Outside is smooth and slick in spots but not so much in other areas. Finish wore off already on rub areas of the trigger and the plunger where the collet meets it. Can also see where rough edges and burs take their tool on adjacent surfaces. Other older 1911s I have are all much smoother and reassemble much more easily. This may be because they have been used and thus worn or just better made not sure. Nonetheless I truly enjoyed my day and will continue to put this one to good use at the range.

...and a good time was had by all. (Except when locating the sharp spots during cleaning.) Thanks for sharing your experiences.
Stay safe,
