When reloading and attempting to fine powder that is compatible with your specific caliber, this here is valuable information to have: http://www.reloadbench.com/burn.html

Bluedot will produce magnum velocities, which may/or may not produce the best results for your chosen application.

    Star idaho ? ! Oh my !

I used to live in Emmet

I have 5 plus burn rate charts on my wall.
I was looking for actual personal experiences/opinions of those who have used it in 45 colt in comparison to other powder,
Did a search found someone that said 8.5gr of unique was same velocity of 13gr bluedot shot over a chrony and not as published data showed.

    Have fun

I have used Bluedot for 25+ years in the .357 and .44 magnum but I have no experience with it in the .45 Colt. It is a good powder for when you need relatively high magnum velocity and is a little bit more forgiving that W296 or H110. It is reasonably clean burning as well. I would suspect it would perform well in the 45 Colt.

Go the source: the Alliant website.
Alliant, which manufactures Blue Dot, lists 12.9 grs. of Blue Dot under a Speer 250 gr. lead semiwadcutter giving 1,028 fps from a 5-1/2 inch barrel.
I don't know if that's a maximum or starting load.

I'd be very leery of any website that isn't the manufacturer's. I've seen dangerously overpressure loads listed on some sites for the .45-70 Marlin, .44 Magnum and .45 Colt.
That said, I've frequented the Reload Bench site for years and it seems okay. But just to be on the safe side, when getting loading info off the internet, ALWAYS check the load against another reputable source.
It's just common sense. Typographical errors have occured in printed reloading manuals issued by the major reloading companies; it's even easier to mistype on a website.
    A hit with a .22 is better than a miss with a .44

    That might have been me.

I believe I was using my 7 1/2 barreled SAA. The Lee disk said it was throwing 9.2 grains Unigue but maybe was throwing 9.0 grains or slightly less behind the Lyman 454190 250 grain FP bullet. Same 900FPS velocity as the 12.9 grains blue dot. I can't remember if I weighed the blue dot charge so maybe it was not as stated also. If I were to get 100 FPS more it may have been worth the 50% increase cost of using blue dot but I wasn't. Unigue was position sensitive though. Out of a 12 in. buntline that same 9.0 grain unigue charge does give 1000 FPS actual velocity.

Chronographs are cheap now days ( well under $100) and I really needed one of these years ago instead of relying on what the book states. If you reload do yourself a favor and get one. Ask for it as a present if you must.
