    MKIII Lawman

It took 7 days from purchase to range for the MKIII Lawman. I was very pleased with the overall performance of the pistol. The only down side was poor workmanship on the the front sights. They were blurry. I'm sure that is a manufacturing defect that I'll have to attempt to fix with a dab of paint.

I fired 158 gr lswc on 4.5 gr Universal in .38 special and 125gr JHP on 8.3 gr Bullseye for .357. The first 3 rounds from the revolver were .38 special and all ended up in the X ring of a 5.5" shoot'n'see at 15 yards, strong hand. I should have stopped and posted the target for bragging.

The SA trigger is excellent. Not as light as a couple of my S&W's, but quite acceptable. The DA trigger surprised me. It released "early" compared with my S&W's and Ruger GP100. The trigger was smooth and easy to use.

Overall, this revolver shot and handled recoil well. A bit of Testor's on the front sight will probably help with the blurry front sight.

Presuming it is a factory Coltguard (electroless nickel) finish, that was only available for a couple of years before the MkIII was discontinued. Along with the 2" barrel, that makes it a little more scarce. All that and shoots well too.

Oh, the Testors will help with the visibility, but not the blurriness. Without wanting to reignite debate about sighting, blurriness needs to be addressed with the proper optics. There are some previous threads about suggestions and solutions to that issue. I usually get in a plug for Walter Roper who, in his book Experiments of a Handgunner, claims, based on his experiments, that it is more important to have the sights in focus than the target. Since even 100% eyes can't focus in both planes at the same time, keep that in mind in your experiments.

    Talking

Greener MY old eyes also suffer from that blurry problem. The little dab of paint seems to help but my glasses help even more.

I shoot with glasses with bifocals, so it's either manufactured blurry sights or MBS (multiple birthday syndrome).

Unfortunately, you can't look through both parts at the same time, so you still have to choose.

The old Colt snubbies are easy to see. Probably because they have the serrated front sight and the distance between front and rear is quite small therefore making it much easier to focus on front and rear sights simultaneously. I always focus on the sights and let the target blur some.

I had that trouble. I have bi-focals and would be shooting with my head tilted back or my glasses pushed up. So I went to my local Vision works and got a single vision pair made with my bi-focal script. They were on sale for $49. - They thought it was a little wierd, until my wife starts telling - their for when he shoots his guns. That got some strange looks. But in the end it made a dramatic difference in my shooting!! And those front sights aren't blurry anymore - Now if I could just see the target!!

Just an FYI. Wait until the weather cools down and shoot the gun again before you make a judgement call on the sight. A common problem in this area is when shooting in the middle of the summer, it doesn't take much heat from the gun to create waves between the sights and that makes the front sight look blurry. Has the effect of making you think your eyes tired out quickly.

Exactly. Walter Roper would like you.
