If I remember correctly, the last time I loaded these bullets I roll crimped just at the shoulder. Check out Oregon Trail Bullets (they have a web-site). Their bullets are cheaper and better in my opinion.
Question... how deep to seat Hornady #11108 SWC .44cal 240grn bullets for .44 Special?
Seat to the C.O.L measurement of 1.490" in the Hornady reloading manual for 240grn (#11108) SWC bullet (page 877) and apply roll crimp there?
OR
Seat to just shy of the "shoulder" and crimp there? This would produce a C.O.L a few hundredths shorter than 1.490", but I thought I read somewhere that SWC / lead bullets like Hornady's #11108, without a cannelure, are set and crimped on the shoulder... can't find where I read that though.
Same thing different words...
What am I missing when it comes to figuring how deep to seat bullets when reloading (with or without a cannelure)?

I ended up seating them to the C.O.L measurement of 1.490" (as best I could with a Lee Classic Loader) as noted in the Hornady reloading manual for 240grn (#11108) SWC bullet (page 877) over 5.9 grains of Unique and applied what amounted to a tapper crimp / light roll crimp (?) there; basically just removed the case flare previously applied prior to seating the bullet.
A couple of dozen rounds as such seemed to work just fine (went bang, hit the cans (mostly) I was targeting at about 10-20 yards) in a Ruger Super Blackhawk.
