    Bullet swaging for 1991A1

Has anyone here ever swagged successfully for 1991A1 barrels? I am thinking of ordering a set of CH4D 105 dies in SWC. With the soft lead from a swage die I'm curious if bullet lube would be needed or not. Some people report serious leading and some don't. I'm curious what people have done that worked, what was a disaster, and what was middle of the road. I say middle of the road as in maybe accurate but watch the leading or so so accuracy but little leading. Maybe swage then coat in Lee's Alox lube? And I only say 1991A1 as that is a) what I shoot and b) what I would assume others have more of out there than most, but c) I admit to not knowing if there is a serious enough difference in most barrel designs to notice. Any info shared would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I am a bullet caster not a swager, but maybe I can help you a little. You absolutely will have to lube your bullets before they can be shot or you will smear lead to a fare ye well. Depending on the effectiveness of your lube, you may still have leading issues. Personally I never had any success at all in 45 ACP with the very few swaged bullets I have shot. The bullet is too soft to hold the shallow rifling well. Maybe there are exceptions but I will stick with cast bullets in my guns.

In any case consider lube a must with any lead bullet. Swaged or cast.

And here I was thinking the shallow grooves wouldn't cling to lead so bad. I knew I was asking in the right place. I was curious if the well under 1000 FPS and the shallow grooves would really be a problem or not.
