which bullets .44-40?

Hi guys. New guy here. Just bought a 3rd gen. SAA Sheriffs model in .44-40. Trying to get the reloading supplies ordered. Which diameter lead bullets should a guy be looking at? I don't have the pistol yet so I can't slug the bore. Any help would be great. Thanks alot. dave

Loading the 44WCF (.44-40)

The Aforementioned article may help. However, Depending on the Brass you use, which they all have different thickness, Maximum diameter would be restricted to .428.

.429 does not load as well in R-P Brass without significant changes to the brass or resizing the neck down after loading. Some who have decided to use .429 Bullets may have a differ opinion, however you risk leading the forcing cone if using soft lead or excessive wear if using Harder Lead. Not to mention the pressure that is created with larger bullets.

Factory Jacket bullets have a Maximum size of .427 with some in the .4265 range.
