Listen up rubes, there is NO clean burning powder. All powder is dirty, its just a matter of how some powder is dirtier than other powders.
Clean burning powder is a general myth that just won't die. For the die-hards, fire enough of the so-called clean burning powder and you will get the usual powder blow-by, dirt, grime, and generally coating of by-products associated with the burning of formulated powder.
All powder is dirty.

BINGO BINGO BINGO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THERE is no bigger red herring in the shooting sports than all the whining about " clean burning " smokeless propellents. FOR INSTANCE : I have a 1962 COLT NM 45 with 55,000 rounds through as we speak [ have not shot it in years ] . It as been cleaned five[5] times in that time. NOTHING but BULLSEYE and UNIQUE have been shoot threw it. It was wiped off on the outside with WD40 after every use and you can barely tell in from a new pistol.
NOTE THIS : when you look down the barrel of a fired pistol the ash you see is that of the last fired shot, which blew out the previous stuff left over, simultaneously.
THANK YOU Hatman whomever you are !!!
AND so it goes...
While there may be no truly "clean" burning powder, that isn't what the OP asked about....He asked what is the "cleanest" burning powder. Which to me is a fair question. Some burn cleaner than others.
