    Reloaders Win

Now that I am firmly entrenched in the Colt ownership club it is time to take up reloading. I can easily see that this is a great cost saving approach and have quickly found that it is also a great way to spend time with the kids( sons & daughter). However I could not believe all the comments about improved accuracy when we are talking about changes in gunpowder volume that are on the order of tenths of a grain. I mean come-on someone as bad a shot as me could not really expect to tighten up a group based upon smokeless powder volume and primer selection. Well today I shot groups of three using Win LP primers, 800-X powder and my 45 brass.

Just amazing is all I can say. What a difference a couple of flakes of powder can make. With my Commander I shot 1-2in groups with 6.5grains. Then with my 80Series Government Model I got the same results with 6.8grains. Anything more than 0.2grains up or down and the scattering commenced. Me and the family now are about as tight as these groupings. Not every parent can say that about their teenagers. And they say guns and ammo are bad. Go figure they have brought us close enough that the kids now look forward to coming home from school!

    So that my range report

There is a reason that load data indicates specific charge weight.I only use a powder measure to get me close to the desired charge. All charges are weighed. I have never had a powder measure that would throw the exact same charge every time, they all will vary a few tenths of grain depending how you hold your tongue. My argument for weighing each charge is that you would not know if a bad group is you or your inconsitent charge loads. That tenth a grain can make a difference as you have found out.

Welcome to the reloading group. There is a big rumor going around about reloading. The rumor is that you will save money. You won't save any money, you'll spend just as much, but you will SHOOT A LOT MORE FOR THE MONEY YOU SPEND!!!!!!
Welcome to the club & enjoy!
