    Short 45 cases?

When I go to the range, I spend a few minutes, picking up cases for my 45, that others have left behind on the ground. I've been finding a bunch of "short 45s" They measure .75 in. in length. I checked my books, and can't find out what they're from. Any one know?

That's about the length of the .455 MK II British service cartridge case. Do the cases have any headstamps on them? Are the rims thinner than .45 Colt?

Added: I assumed you were looking for .45 Colt. If you were picking up .45 ACP, then the "short" ones were likely .45 GAP. Again, were there headstamps?

If you were looking for 45 Colt's, the short ones are probably 45 Schofield cases. If they're REALLY short compared to the 45 Colt, they may be the 455's.

45 colt- 1.285 inch case length
    45 Schofield- 1.1 inch
    455 Webley- .77 inch

If you were shooting 45 ACP, then haggis is right, most likely 45 GAP
    Six for sure

They could be, but I doubt it, .45 Special cases. Invention of a pard in New York. Makes the case smaller to get better performance and less recoil with the .45. No concerns with double charging a case when reloading. Used by some CAS shooters. I said I doubt it as the new brass isn't cheap and you have to reload to shoot it.

    Thanks for the input.

I should have been more specific. 45ACP. The rim, and bevel are a match to the 45 ACP. The length is .75, not .898. Looking at the stamp{get out the magnifier], and it does have G.A.P. on it Now I know what to Google, to find them. Thanks again.

The 45 GAP ammo & brass are hard to find, for those who were seduced by the Glock siren.

Might put it up for sale.

I'd guess they're not .45 Schofield cases. Anyone shooting them would have picked them up...they're too expensive to toss out...Ken
