They have a dry lubricant all over them. Email or call Speer/CCI or go to their site for a description and explanation. Hornady uses a dry lube on their swaged lead bullets, different but the same. "Lodem an' shootem"
Speer 158 grain semi wadcutter hollow point lead bullets. When I opened the box,I was surprised as these have no lube in the grooves. The outside surface seems kinda rough/grainey. The surface "feels" like it might have some type of lube coating though.
I never tried these so maybe that's the way all the 158 gr SWCHP's are. I guess I expected a smoother surface and lube in the rings.
Anyone else ever use this type of bullet?

Loaded and shot many.

Thanks guys. I guess Ill just load like i do with the hollow base wadcutters with no crimp.
I load the 158grn SWC version of the same Speer bullet the OP speaks of.
Usually over 4.5grn of Unique for my OMM, sometimes over 4.2grn of Unique for an older OP I have.
In either case, I apply a roll crimp. Is there a reason not to??
Nope; I use a roll crimp on swaged SWC bullets when I use them, which isn't often. I cast for nearly all my shooting and use a roll crimp on them too.
