Sorry to hear of the troubles, glad you enjoyed some range time with your lovely bride.
My wife said let's go shooting. Great I said, I have to check out my "returned - fixed Detectice"
The 226 is hers, we are fighting over my Woodsman. :-)
I took the Diamondback for a reference. 250 rounds of 148 grn WC powder 231 with 3.2 grns .
It took a week to post this because I am so disgusted. About 40 misfires, the trigger failed to return frequently, and I had to occasionaly use a small screw driver to pry the latch back to open the cylinder. The accuracy was 3 to 4 inches with the Colt Detective and about 1 to 1 1/2 inches with the Diamondback, shooting off hand not resting on the bench. My wife had a great time and I enjoyed shooting with her very much. She did wonderful with the 9mm and the Woodsman, 2 inch groups and often smaller!

At 20 yards offhand with the DS, 3 to 4 inches isnt all that bad. in double action. Even at 15 yards its not that bad. In single action ,2 inches at 15 yards is decent offhand. It all depends on the distance.
Yep I agree with your opinion capstan. The majority of shots were double action, checking for reliability. My distance was 15 yds. My few shots for accuracy were single action, one handed and two handed. I find I shoot a tad better one handed because of my NRA bulleye's shooting. I think you would agree a 3-4 inch a good group single action at 15 yds is not acceptable accuracy for a Colt Detective. I get better groups with a Tarus or Charterarms. :-)
The Diamondback did just fine, but it did not go to the factory for a tune up either. With the Detective, crane was bent and wouldn't always eject the shells with one push. I will say, now that you mention it, I got 1 -1/2 inch groups with that Detective before sending it off for repairs. ( Kind-a wish I never sent it in to Colt and pay close to $200 for a screwed up gun)
I like the Colt and want to use this revolver as my CCW. I am up in years and prefer a small revolver over my old 1911.
