    Moly Coated Lead Bullets?

Is anyone loading moly coated cast lead bullets in their SAA revolvers? I've never used moly coated bullets in revolvers, but have in semi-auto pistils and with great success. I like them because they are accurate and produce less smoke and barrel fouling than wax-lubed cast bullets.
Suggestions for suppiers would be welcome. I am having trouble finding a moly bullet I like the looks of.

Hello, Buckspen. I have been moly-coating my cast rifle bullets for years. I had stopped shooting handguns after I got out of IHMSA, but nearly 20 years later, got them out into action again. I thought of using moly, but since all of my single actions are fixed sight..and moly makes things slick..It could cause a bullet that otherwise would shoot to point of aim, to shoot low..The same principle of a lighter bullet printing lower because of faster barrel time. Just my theory?
Any way, with the moderate loads I use, I have no need of the moly.

Bisley - Thanks for your comments. Where I live it can get quite humid in the summer, and this can be especially noticable in the morning hours when matches start up. I was shooting a SVI hi-cap USPSA Limited gun with cast (wax lubed) .40 caliber bullets and sometimes the smoke would be so bad that it would obscure the targets in the still, moist air. Some of the guys suggested moly coated lead bullets and I tried them and they smoked much less and alleviated the problem. I also noticed that the gun was easier to clean than when shot with wax-lubed bullets. I don't remember experiencing any difference in the point of impact of these bullets.
I got back into cowboy action shooting last year and have been shooting .45 Schofield factory Black Hills ammo in my Colt SAA's and Marlin lever gun. The factory 230gr load shoots right to point of aim with my SAA's. I'm getting ready to start reloading them and want to try moly bullets in these loads.

I have shot a lot of them in SAAs, as long as they fit the chamber mouth, I've had great results with them. I don't use them with black powder, but with smokeless they work quite well. I've even used .45 Cal molly bullets in .45 Colt rifles with good results & in a .45-70 too, .458 dia. I did keep velocity's down in the .45-70 to Springfield specs. but they shot well.
Good luck, I think they will work well for you.

PS: It is a good idea to seat then crimp in a seperate step because you can shave the molly coating off if you don't have a really good crimp groove on the bullet. Don't ask how I learned this he he he.

Frank - Thanks for the tip on seating and crimping in a separate die. I think Precision Bullets has information about that on their web site, too. I've ordered some of their moly coated bullets and will try them out.

Great, I think you will like them. Another thing I learned, they are very slippery & I almost always drop one or two each time I reload them. It's not a big deal, but don't be taken off guard by it.
