I am looking for the best powder and load for 230 gr. RNL, .452", Softball, from Missouri Bullet Co. I have tried 4 gr. of N310 Vhitavouri which I use for 200 gr. FNL Valiant in my 1911s with no leading whatsoever, but 4 gr. of this powder appear to be either a little too much or not enough? Lapua suggests 3.6 gr. N320 which I am going to try next. Does anyone have a favorite that works well for them?
AFTER testing about fifteen propellents in the 45ACP cartridge with 230GR LRN bullets I went right back to where I had started, using the Govt' load of BULLSEYE. Uncle Sam did not use BULLSEYE exclusively for 80 years for nothing !!!! ONLY the Israeli issued 45ACP ammunition used a different propellent.
The Govt' load works great with JRN 230GR bullets, and works even better with LRN 230GR bullets IMNHO.
And so it goes....
I load MBC RN .230 Softballs using about 5 grains of Unique. I get great accuracy.
Best load not to lead the barrel.
4.8gr of 700X under 230gr RNL works for me
I like and use 5 grs. Bullseye under a 230 gr bullet, either FMJ or lead in my Ruger P97. Works great. James

I have to agree with Bullseye. I have used it for years with great results. Anywhere between 4.5 and 5.0 grains has worked great for me. Lead bullets have a little less resistance than FMJ bullets, so I would start with 4.5 grains.
What kind of Legacy will you leave?
