    Lyman 452374FX [Large File]

Cast several pounds of these from air cooled wheel weights, 213 grains, .455 diameter. My first dance with this mould. Any comments on mould number? Weight? Diameter? Thanks guys & God Bless...............Creeker

It is a good number. Mine casts closer to 225 gr. when I use WW. I have a single cavity and a double cavity, when I mix WW and pure lead I get a good drop right at 230 grains from all three cavities. Makes me wonder why yours drops light. I load over 4.5 gr. of Bullseye for a good load in my Norinco and my LWE Commander.

Thanks for the imput. I wonder why this mould cast so lite at 213 plus some of the bullets will go .456 from WW alloy. I know some of Lyman's moulds change from time to time when they cut a new cherrie but this on seems way off from the standard 225 grain .452 bullet the 452374 should be.

That is an "Interesting" mod on the sprue plate screw. They had to mod the handles as well. It sure looks like it does the job though. Looks like you got the mold nice and hot. That's was my problem until I started setting my mold on a hot plate before casting.

As to your last question, its possible that the mold is not closing fully and kind of self beagling the mold causing a larger diameter. And as far as the light weight, the nose profile looks off.

Perhaps you got one that was cut with a worn cherry.

I fear that until a select few can profit from not treading on me, nothing will change.
