Pros and cons of a lighter bullet ?

Hello all , I have been reloading for sometime now and all i have ever loaded for pistol was 230 grain 45 ACP and its getting kind of boring , Now dont get me wrong i am making very accurate rounds but i would like to start mixing it up a little , hows the recoil and accuracy when going to a lighter round ? what characteristics should i expect ? is aiming the same ? in short what the difference besides FPS

all Ive ever shot is FMJ , Never tried lead due to all the hype about lead fowling in barrel

I have read on the forum bullseye and lead are a good combo

Ive been using Rainer bullets RN which you load AS a lead round

and last any good light round 45 acp target loads recommended ?

    Thx Guys

    Try some Lead semi-Wadcutters...

Try some Round Nose Lead also...

Easy to get, many places offer them.

At the same velocities as Hard Ball, they are far kinder to the Pistol, too...less strain, less Barrel Wear.

proper fit (bullet diameter) and hardness will permit you to shoot lead bullets with little or no leading. I like the 200 grain round nose flat points I can buy locally at reasonable prices. I've also used Ranier and Berrys, both excellent bullets but the cast are usually cheaper. IMHO far too much fuss has been made about "leading". With a bullet of the correct size for your bore, leading will be minimal or non existant. If you find a bit of lead, a Lewis Lead Remover will quickly and easily remove it. Generally lighter bullets will generate somewhat lower recoil. Mr Newtons laws of inertia still apply.

I just realized that in over 30 years of reloading I have never loaded a jacketed handgun bullet. Just can't justify the cost for my shooting needs. And I can't imagine that jacketed would work any better. Try a 200 grain SWC with HP-38/Win 231.

Sounds good guys , I have to agree with DFrame that i DO believe that leading is overrated and ive got caught up in all the hype , I mean hell , there was lead before jacketed bullets right ? , lol , And yes when you shoot 3-5 hundred rounds a week things get a little out there on funding .
Now i dont i have any local shops that carry lead so i will have to order .Suggestions on a name brand and where to order for a good deal ? I do have some Win. 231 in stock , ive been using 5.5 for the 230 grain - any suggestions on powder grains for this lead load ?

    451 OR 452 ? diam. 200 grain SWC
    Win. 231/ Grains ?
    CCI primers

    Thx All

Currently I use RN 200 in the Revolvers , but everything else in cluding my AR45 is 180 SWC
with 5.0Gr of American Select. Federal Primers in the 200s, Winchester inthe 180s.
I also Load some Holy Black Sub. (APP) 180s for SASS Wild Bunch in a Old Colt A1.

I like 200 gr Missouri Bullet Company SWC over about 5 grains of Unique. They run about 800 fps out of my 1911's. You will get no leading at those speeds.
