    1950's Official Police 38 special

I'm headed to the range today to shoot this 6" beauty with a variety of factory loads. This gun has an action like a Python. I don't know how it got that way, but it is the best "out of the box" trigger of any Colt I've ever owned. A report will be forthcoming.

Have fun with it. These are great reliable handguns that were one of the mainstays in the Colt Handgun lineup for many decades. Mine seems to prefer the 158 gr. loads. Shoots +P 158 gr. lead SWCHPs to point of aim. Enjoy your Colt.

My 1952 production 4" police cast off is a fine shooter. Looks a little rough, not much finish. It also likes 158 gr. cast, RN is the best.

Well, I'm back from the range and you guys were right about the 158 LRN. That's what shot best through it. They were even better than my Western mid-range Super Match 148 wad-cutters. It is a very accurate, smooth running wheel gun. Federal JHP and some +P shot OK, but that plain old lead was hitting the bull eye. I also took my S&W M57 and Georgia Arms new 41 caliber Cowboy loads. They load them to 800 FPS, which is pretty mild for 41 Mag. They put some kind of lube on the bullet, I guess to make them smoke like a black powder gun, but I wiped most of that off before I went. They still produced some smoke, and the gun is pretty dirty, but it will clean up fine. That load is pretty accurate.

FWIW: I have an Official Police 50s vintage that has a Python like action.

My OP 4" likes 158 LSWCs a lot. So far Unique has gotten the call with excellent results. The action is butter smooth and it's now loaded with 158LSWCHPGCs with a +P powdercharge sitting on a CCI match. Good truck and knock about gun.

I too love my post war Official Police's.

Everyone that I take shooting gravitates towards these. Smooth actions and handloads that don't beat you up. Perfect "Fun" combination.

I fear that until a select few can profit from not treading on me, nothing will change.

BigRix Great Photo! Hope you don't mind if I use it for a screensaver. Love my OP which isn't near as nice as either of yours. 38s are pussycats in OP frames.
