Recently I began to cast my own bullets for a number of calibers, one being the 45acp. The nice people at LEE make a very nice 6 cavity TL tumble lube bullet that works very well in my Gold Cup. And very efficient.
Out of the LEE six cavity tumble lube mould the bullets size out to .452, [200 grain SWC.] No need to size. Tumble lube them and they are ready to go.
For the propellant I use ATK's bulk powder PROMO. PROMO is like RedDot. I started out using 4.0 grains of PROMO and it worked very well. Then my pal Gerry told me that he dropped the PROMO load to 3.8 grains. This load still fills just under 50% of the case. The cast lead bullet sits 50% deep in the case, using a slight crimp.
Out of my 70 series GCNM I can consistently shoot a 465-469 out of 480 with the last 18 rounds fired at the 25 yard line. My best score was a 471 out of 480. Now that's performance.
