The weather was so nice here today that after work I took my new FNP45, Detonics Pocket 9, H&K P7, and a Stoeger .410 Coach Gun (side by side). I used a mixture of .45 acp including both 230 grain ball and 230 grain JHPSs. The 9mm I used was Winchester White Box 115 grain jacketed round nose; and the .410 was Federal #6 shot and Winchester Defense load that is 12 BBs and 3 plated disks.
The Detonics Pocket 9 could be called the Detonics Pocket Hammer; as I've read elsewhere the recoil is stout; it is a straight blowback design; if the recoil spring was heavier weight it would be a perfect pocket gun with enough oomph (imagine a +P round) to stop a threat up close and personal. This gun was not designed for target shooting; but as a defensive gun up close and personal...for that purpose it is quite effective.
H&K's P7 - I would love to have one of these in .45 acp; I was concerned that I would concentrate more on ensuring that I maintained a strong grip rather then sight alignment. Not a problem. At 7 yards the the center of the target disappeared. The P7 has a natural feel to the grip angle and the pistol, while not heavy in the hand, the gun is heavy enough that recoil is not an issue. The P7 is a keeper.
The Stoeger Stainless .410 Coach gun is pure fun; but would be good, with the right round, serve duty as a home defense round. Winchester's 2-1/2" Supreme Elite PDX1 ammo, with 12 BBs and 3 plated cylinder disks is a good choice; designed for Taurus's Judge it worked well in the short (18-1/2") barrels. I noticed some flecks of wadding in the barrels after shooting the PDX1s; but a puff of air cleared that up. Federal's #6 Shot patterned quite well, out to 15 yards; I didn't have any kraft paper to use for patterning beyond 15 yards. It would be fun to try trap with this shotgun I think.
Next up is the FNP (US made FNs) .45 acp. Quick, blindfold me; is this a Sig or an FNP? A stainless slide; with a polymer frame; Sig-like controls from the takedown lever to the slide stop; stealing an idea from John Browning, the decocking lever also serves ala a 1911 allowing the hammer to be cocked and locked; the pistol is single/double action. While the poly frame lightens the gun considerably; it is a big pistol and with the double stack high capacity magazines (from the factory it has two 14 round and one 15 round magazine. With all 3 magazines loaded you have 44 rounds of .45 acp at your fingertips!
I shot the Customs and Border Protection Quarterly Qualification Course with the FNP; 30 rounds beginning at the 3-1/2 yard line, then 7 yards, and finally 15 yards. The course of fire is:
3-1/2 yard line
6 Rounds Strong Hand Only, reload
6 Rounds Support Hand Only
7 yard line
draw, fire 2 rounds center body mass, stay aimed in, 2 rounds center body mass, 2 rounds center body mass, reload, holster
draw, 2 rounds center body mass, 1 round to the head. Stay aimed in, repeat, holster.
15 yard line
draw, shot 2 rounds standing barricade support side; 2 rounds standing strong side, and kneeling, 2 rounds stong side barricade. Maximum score 150. I shot a 150.
The targets: I shot the CBP Course on one target and also shot two of the Winchester shells at the upper right corner of the target; the other target was the Detonics, P7, and the shotgun shooting 8 rounds #6 and 2 rounds of the PDX1. Enjoy the photos...
