Hi All,
Great forum. Belong to Hi-Power forum, great guys also. I acquired a 1978 Python (892xxE) from my father-in law. He bought it in 1980. He shot maybe 6 shots, then put it away. Looks like new. Tyler grip on it when he got it. Tyler grip has finish imperfections. 2" blue, but I like the longer barrel. I wonder is it worthwhile to change out barrel to 4"? Retract from value? $cost? Your input is appreciated. Better to sell it and get a 4" python? ![]() Thanks again fellas, E Meyers Louisiana Last edited by 351venom; 02-09-2010 at 11:27 AM. |

Welcome from Michigan 351venom! You're right, this is a great site with many members who have very specific Colt knowledge. The best part is they're willing to share. Please don't be afraid to share what you know.
My thoughts on your 2" Python are to leave it as is. If your real interest is a 4" version you're better off just buying the 4" version. (I'm sure there will be members that chime in and give advice of desirability of the 2" versus the 4" versions.) I'm reading between the lines and guessing you didn't pay your father-in-law for your 2", and that price is definitely right. Still, you'll have the cost of a new barrel (if you can find one) and gunsmithing fees to convert yours to 4". If you did pay for the gun, you have to add those costs above the price you paid. Without knowing your financial abilities, my suggestion is you keep the 2" (for sentimental value if nothing else) and find a nice 4" version. If that's not feasible for you then I'd look to sell (or trade) yours and get the version you desire.

Hi Randy,
Thanks for the WELCOME. Don't know alot. Just gun safety and the love for them and my old mustangs! Always wanted the PYTHON he had. Could have sworn it had a longer barrel...hadn't seen it in 30 years. lol. Swapped the lil' 2" parkerized Agent I bought for my wife in "84. She wouldn't carry/use it. Mother-in-law wants the Agent to keep in the house, and the Python was too large. I'll get them all back in years to come... Thanks again, Eric Last edited by 351venom; 02-07-2010 at 11:00 AM. |

Thanks for the reply. Lived here all my life. Yes, that is the best catfish! Been there several times on. Got an idea of what the 2' blue python is worth? Posted the question in the classifieds. If I don't reply anymore this evening, I got to go to work "dogs" at the chemical plant tonite.
Thanks in advance, Eric |

Eric,
I am not the right guy to suggest a selling price, so I checked gunbroker.com. This one sold: http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/Vie...Item=156229076 This one has not sold, and has been for sale for at least two weeks: http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/Vie...Item=156683222 Hopefully other members will join the fray and let you know a fair selling price for your Python.
