I've been looking for an SAA for awhile and have decided that I would like a US Cavalry or US Artillery model and have seen many. This one has a couple of issues, grips and finish for starters...but what seems to be a fair price as a buyer in today's market?
http://www.gunsamerica.com/939939736...ory_Letter.htm# Anyone know of any decent (Under $5K) US SAA's that are out there for sale??? |

Well, you could go out and buy a brand new 3rd Gen Blue/CCH in either
5-1/2" or 7-1/2" just like the Army did in 1873 for around $1200-$1300. As the generations show time period of manufacturing changes not engineering changes it's almost the same exact pistol. |

I think you could get a little better one than that for that price. Bob

I would seriously be concerned buying from someone that has been signed up since 2007, but has no transactions.
Take a look at the auction houses. Little Johns and Rock Island have auctions coming up in February. There are many times great deals on guns that have been verified. |

these places all have first gen saa's in your price range that can at least show you what's out there. including several artillery models.
http://www.armchairgunshow.com/otsCA...ction_army.htm http://www.cherrys.com/handguns.htm http://www.collectorsfirearms.com/ad...3&subcatID=158 like the others, i'd say you could get a little more gun than the one shown at the price. i do agree with you though about first gen vs. third gen. i just have no interest in a new gun. part or much of the premium on first gen saa's is where a particular gun might have been, who might have used it etc. it's the "character" of the piece. |

I only found this site a few years ago,and I rarely part with my Colts. That's the reason for a lack of transactions.I've sold some items thru EBAY. (humminghome) and bought a few guns thru Gunbroker and AuctionArms. (pecospark and pecosriver) I understand your trepidation, but not all of us can be charter members. Please don't assume I'm out to cheat anyone. If you choose not to buy,so be it.

I think that is has alot to offer from a historical point. The ad has listed all the information, which you need to verify yourself or with an expert. It seems to me that the seller is trying hard to cover all that hey have learned about the gun. Exactly what I would do if I was selling mine. You could ask for some closeups of the cylinder markings (if any) and close ups of the barrel markings and any others that you think, will help you make the best informed decision on buying it.
Ask them for a 3-day inspection period, ask them if they have someone that they used to inspect the gun, if you could call them about it. On the whole, I think it is an honest Colt. I think the guns with scant information are the ones I would be leery of. ![]() Good luck, Oklahoma Dee |
