    Fourth Gen Colt SAA?

This is what the seller is claiming. I'm thinking it's a 3rd Gen SAA and he doesn't know better. Unfired NIB, blue box with white sleeve. 7 1/2 inch Calvary model blue with case color smokeless frame 45 Colt cal. Considering the current lack of availability what would be a reasonable price for this revolver? Thanks, Rick.

    Rick,

Some people have called the late 3rd gens after the removable cyl pin bushing was reintroduced from the 2nd gen (2003), a 4th gen. Those that are Colt savvy don't use or recognize a 4th gen.

A price closer to $1400-1500 is the most reasonable. I'd pay a very slight premium if it does have the cyl bushing.

Thanks Hondo I guess I still have a lot to learn. I've read on here about the cylinder bushing but I really don't know exactly what it is and what to look for. Regards

    Hi Rick,

When the cyl pin is pulled and cyl removed, there's a bushing that can be removed from the cyl. This is authentic to the 1st and 2nd gen Colts but was eliminated for the first 20 years + of the 3rd gen production. Much easier to fix fore and aft play of cylinders, called cyl end shake. Just replace the bushing.

As Hondo said, no 4th Gen SAA guns. Some sellers try to say this to distance their product from other 3rd Gens that aren't as desirable.

    Just replace the bushing.
Or add a Power Custom shim.

Actual msrp is as of early 2017 was $1600. Nothing special about a 7.5" blue and case with a cross pin "smokeless" frame and a removable bushing of the current production. That said $1800. is not out of line on a asking/getting price from what I have seen.

Yeah I am amazed how some of the folks that I consider to be the most savvy in regards to colts are so far off base from what the actual market calls for these days.

A NIB going for $1800 is becoming quite a steal these days. I have seen the same price for used early 90's guns, or even more. Hell, I just saw a new 5.5" barrel standard cch colt go for a buy it now price of $2700. Now that's probably an outlier, but to fetch over $2000 for anything new is hardly a stretch. I think I will wait until the next crash before I buy anymore. Maybe take that $2700 one that will be still sitting in the safe and get it for $1200.
