    Here's the latest I've seen.

    https://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/co...retail-market/

UPDATE: TTAG was able to speak directly with Paul Spitale, Senior Vice President of Colt’s commercial business line. He confirmed the above. Colt has halted production of its commercial long guns lines and is focusing its manufacturing and sales on 1911s and revolvers.

He also stressed that Colt has about 110 days of long gun inventory in its distribution network and if market conditions change down the road, they could revisit this decision.

Coincidences abound! I had a similar terrible boating accident.

My boating accident resulted in the loss of ALL of my guns! I hope the Eezox and Renaissance Wax preserve the guns underwater until I can find them.

Late word indicates that Colt has gotten some big contracts for foreign governments and needs to direct production to them temporarily.

It sounds like Colt will continue shipping commercial rifles but at a much slower rate while it completes the contracts.

Good for Colt. Foreign governments are probably far more cognizant of the Colt name than they are most other AR-type rifle makers...plus Colt has the export ability they've enjoyed for years.

It doesn't even make sense, the way it's worded...

"We're going to quit selling to the only buyers we have now to try and regain buyers that we don't have anymore."

    Wow, there's some marketing genius.

It makes perfect sense for Colt, which never misses an opportunity to miss an opportunity.

Next up, I would expect management to discontinue civilian production of the 1911 and SAA to focus on military contracts for those guns.

I think you summed it up perfectly, in that one sentence!

I guess when you think about it, that philosophy goes right back to Samuel Colt himself, who spent an inordinate amount of his time trying to sell the government a crackpot system of underwater explosives to protect harbors.

What I find interesting is that except for the Russians and Chinese and their close allies, much of the free world has gone to the M16, and seem to prefer Colt rifles for their military and police. (Often the same thing).

Whatever a country uses for a battle rifle, it appears that almost all of the free world special ops units use Colt carbines or HK versions of Colt's.

I saw a list of the countries who placed orders with Colt that caused this, and most were North African or Arab.

I think that in the Senate and White house sanity will prevail.
I think that most fully understand that passing gun control in an election year will likely cost them the election.
Last night Beto totally gave the game away and most Americans will understand what's intended if the Democrats win.
