    Help please help info needed

HI everyone … Thanks for adding me..I have the chance to buy a COLT AR 15 9mm with the Law enforcement markings on the side of the ar.... its in great condition and comes with 2 original colt mags then about 10 aftermarket mags? QUestion what is a FAIR price for this gun....I have researched and the LE markings on the right side seem kind of rare? This gun sat in a gun shop during the 94 to 04 ban then AFTER the ban the store owner sold it to my buddy he fired it but takes good care of stuff? Do the LE markings make it more valuable? What is fair to offer? If I paid 800 for all would I be doing well? Any info please I only have till Monday to decide... this will be my 2nd colt I also have the peacekeeper or peace maker always forget which it is its the 357 model carried by troopers in the 80s..... Well Thanks again..... This gun actually has written on the side for law enforcement and govt use only? not the exact words but you get the idea!!!!

I don't think the LE markings add much if any value to the carbine...they're not uncommon. I paid about $1200 new for mine about two years ago. Current asking prices seem to hover around the $1500 area or more depending on the seller.

If you can get that for $800...run...grab it and do not stop running until you get it home and be very careful about police with an arrest warrant for you for felony Colt acquisition at that price.

Post pics once you have it.

The LE markings can be a real turn off to some like myself because it reminds us of a time when Colt seemed to not trust citizens to own these awesome rifles. We have to fight for our SECOND AMENDMENT RIGHTS NOW MORE THEN EVER!!!!!!

Bob, if you can get that package for $800, as others already said, you need to go get it as fast as you can. The little carbine with just the 2 Colt mags alone would easily go for $1200 and likely get $1500 around here. They aren't rare but aren't nearly as common as the normal ARs either. It sounds like it comes with a good pile of mags but if you're looking for more, you won't go wrong with the Brownell's brand magazines. They work as well as the factory Colt's at about half the price.

Here's my take on the LE/Gov't markings - As mentioned above, yes they do remind us of a time when the Gov't was trying to lockdown firearms for citizens. In some areas they succeeded, in others those time limits are over and those guns (like the one you're looking at) are now out for everyone. Heck, in other areas I'm saying things have gotten better even. Many more states are supporting their citizens RIGHT to CCW than 20-25 years ago. Take making your potential newly acquired carbine and wanting to make it a registered short barrel blaster - you can do it online now and get approval in 5-6 weeks!! I just did that. Way, way better than the old paper route of waiting 8-12 months. Are our gun rights under attack - very much so and we must be vigilant in keeping the big picture in view, fight back, support those on our side, etc. I'm closely watching what's going on in Virginia. It wouldn't be the first time Virginia started the fight.

I'm getting a bit off track here...back to those markings that remind us of another era and what started my post... Do we all, or at least most, not find the collection of older firearms with U.S. Government markings on them as very desirable now? When those guns were originally built, shipped to our soldiers (or sat in a military warehouse untouched) as initially intended, they weren't offered to the general population. Citizens could purchase basically the same model for most guns made but without the US Gov't markings. Now those with them, being in public hands, often demand a premium. The old Colt SAA's, the various 1911's/A1's and many more. The list goes on. Even the new Sig M17's being released from the military have unique military markings on them that are not available on the commercial guns. They are selling as well used guns for more than a brand new civilian shelf version, simply due to the markings.

That's all that the Colt LE/Gov't marking is to me. It's an identifier of the guns originally built purpose and potential assignment. I, for one, find it pretty cool that eventually many of those guns make it into anyone's hands. In the early 1900's, the US Gov't markings on guns wasn't really what anyone wanted and many filed them off, destroying their value many years down the road. Will the same be said for these Colt's? Who knows. Times are a changing.... but back full circle, for $800 I couldn't care what Colt stamped on that fine carbine. It'd be in my hands.

Make sure to post pictures up when you get it!

For some reason, I'm feeling like I've had a tad too much coffee this morning..

The $800 is a great value for the LE AR-15!
