    Colt 1861 Navy Navy Conversion

Recently acquired conversion of the 1861 with U.S.Navy markings. Nice condition, bore is excellent. Very happy to have found it!

That’s awesome! Congratulations and thanks for sharing with us. Can you please explain a little about it. The R.W.M.T. stamp? I’m not familiar with these in the least.

The stamp is the mark of the inspector at New York Navy Yard, Cdr Richard W Meade Jr, followed by an anchor. They were converted by Colt in 1876 from Navy percussion pistols and inspected when they were returned to the Navy. Also the patent dates have been restamped to show the 1871 and 1872 dates.

Thank you for the reply jcmh1. I went back and now I see the anchor. Great piece of history there. And thanks to Calibre 38 for posting yours. Very nice!

I'm wondering how many of the '61 Navy conversions shown here are centerfire and how many are rimfire (with the thin firing pin 'plate' tacked to the left side of the hammer).

    Mine is rimfire.

All the conversions done for the U.S.Navy are centerfire.
