Colt's Beverly Haynes Says .357 is The Real Deal

I finally got through to Beverly Haynes, Colt archivist since Kathy Hoyt's retirement, and she confirmed to me today that this sixgun was made 11/28/1940 and shipped from Colt on 12/3/1940. And it was AND STILL IS A .357!!!

Cubrock, your hunch was right about the high serial number making it more likely to be an original .357! One of only 628 made! She said the information was scant as to original configuration on these late SAAs and the letter would confirm manufacture date, shipping date and caliber and any other available information. Being that the box is for a 7 1/2" SAA it is all obviously original AND WITH THE KING WORK!!

    Woohoo!

Congratulations! That's a great find. I hope the Colt letter tells you where it originally went. That would be fun to know.

If it turns out to have been shipped directly to Dean King I think I'll have another heart attack!
