    Fitz grip fitting?

    Hi guys.
    I can use some help.
Picked up a NIB Fitz grip for my
    Officers Match Model .22
They feel great and I can't wait to try them out at the range.
But the two halves have a little gap at the backstrap when placed on the gun.
The grips are not warped, they fit together perfectly when not on the gun.
Is there a trick to fitting them?
    Thanks for all your help.

    Re: Fitz grip fitting?

First question for you; Wood or Plastic?,as Fitz made both.

What your probably going to have to do,is to remove some material from inside the grips,so the grip frames will fit "deeper" into them, thus sealing up the "gap" in the backstrap.

Have a pair of an Officers also, and thats what I had to do(plus reduce that thumb rest in size a helluva lot!-for my particular "hold".

Fitz tend to fit "OK",as far as length, but the Franzites,at least for Colt E frames(like yours) and the New Service, tend to be short,or "shrunk". So its either a gap at top of grip,or they ride up on the bottom, showing 'bout 1/8" of metal. Some of the more knowledgeble (or honest!) sellers on eBay will mention that.

Go slowly on your fitting, keep checking, and it will be easier if it is wood! Bud

    Thank you!
    I have the plastic.
Took a look under a strong light. You can see where the frame is rubbing down by the bottom of the grip.
After I have some more coffee(to open my eyes)I'll remove a little bit of plastic with the Dremel. I sure like how the Fitz feel. Thanks again for the help.

My Gawd, your up early in Idaho! I'm back in Maine,2 hrs or 3 later(plus I had all my remaining teeth removed yesterday and new dentures put in,so I've been sleeping,as pain permits!)

When your a gun lover, you tend to figure "how much" in terms of guns,so figure I couldve bought 4-5 3rd Generation SAAs for what the dentures and "surgery" cost!

Just go slow with the Dremel,as I make model trucks, and the Dremel "melted" some plastic 'fore I learned to use it right on plastic.

    Fitz made a nice grip,and I recall,last year,one of the company founders,or something,of Fitz,was on the Forum for a while.
