New King Cobra front sight alert

Just a heads up on these . Probably isolated but we sold a new KC last week and after firing a few rounds the front sight "flew off" and was lost . Suggest checking the tightness of the retaining set screw on your's and maybe add some blue loctite .

We didn't have another KC on hand so we took a front sight off of a std Cobra and installed . He actually liked the red fiber optic sight better . Contacted our Colt rep and Colt is sending us a replacement fiber optic and the KC brass bead sights . Great service by Colt !

Good for Colt with quick customer service. Bad for Colt not tightening the sight screw properly before shipping it. I know stuff happens but when shipping a new product knowing your corporate survival may depend on its public acceptance and quality control one would think they would make sure such entirely preventable things don't occur to begin with.

Bad publicity can sink any new product introduction. Kudos to Colt for responding immediately and kudos to Mitch for substituting the sight from existing inventory to make the customer happy. Until the new sight arrives you have a revolver you can't sell, tying up your inventory dollars...good customer service. Many gun stores would simply order the new front sight and let the customer wait.

Seems like this is a pretty common problem. The sight was wobbly already when I got my Cobra, and I found that the screw was loose. Strangely enough, the screw had oil on it so I cleaned it up and added some blue Loctite to make sure it stays put. This is something they should have done already in the factory, so I'm wondering how many sights they need to send before they realize that?

Yeah the brass bead front sight on my Cobra was a little wiggly when I first got it and was doing its initial lubrication/cleaning. I read a couple reviews where people lost theirs during firing so I pulled the screw out and got a little blue loctite on there before going to the range the first time. It has 220 rounds through it now and the front sight is on there nice and tight.

I may take a little brasso to the bead to brighten it up as its a little darker than the brass beads on some of my other guns

Loctite makes a purple color now too that is a little less powerful than blue that some gun people are recommending is well suited for certain gun screws and tiny fasteners. I’m gonna give it a try and see I think.

Seems to be par for the course on these new Colts. When I got my Cobra, every screw on the gun was loose - sight, sideplate, everything. Tightened 'em up, put blue Loctite on the sight screw, and have had zero problems since. Never hurts to give all the screws on any new gun a test-turn.
