Factory Presentation Colt M1877 DA "Lightning" to Dennis Kearns 1883

Engraved Backstrap Reads: "Presented To / Dennis Kearns / By Colt's Pt. Fire Arms Mfg. Co. / Hartford / May 5, 83.".

Note: The presentation day "May 5, 1883" was on Saturday. Factory letter confirms 38, 3-1/2", Nickel, Rub, no engraving noted & transferred to "Presentation Acc't" on 5-8-1883, which was the following Tuesday. Perhaps this was a 10 years of employment award to Kearns?

    The research so far:

1877 HARTFORD CITY DIRECTORY LISTED HIM AS "PISTOLMAKER" RES. 61 HUYSHOPE.
1879-82 HE IS LISTED AS "LABORER" RES. 61 HUYSHOPE.
1885-1904 HE IS LISTED AS "INSPECTOR AT COLT'S" RES. 69 HUYSHOPE (BY 1899 RES. AT 63 HUYSHOPE, AND BY 1902 AT 51 HUYSHOPE).
1905-09 HE IS LISTED AS "FOREMAN, COLTS" RES. 51 HUYSHOPE.
1912-14 HE IS STILL LISTED AS "FOREMAN, COLTS", BUT RES. 195 RETREAT (BY 1914 RES. 24 BLISS).
1916-17 HE IS "CLERK AT COLTS" RES. 17 BLISS.
1919-21 HE IS AGAIN "FOREMAN, COLTS" RES. 17 BLISS (BY 1920 RES. 286 FRANKLIN).

AFTER 1921 THE HARTFORD CITY DIRECTORIES APPARENTLY NO LONGER LIST DENNIS KEARNS.

1900 CENSUS - DENNIS KEARNS (BORN JUNE 1851 IN IRELAND, IMMIGRATED 1870, NATURALIZED ON OCT 25, 1877) NOTED AS "FIRE ARMS INSPECTOR" RES AT 63 HUYSHOPE AVE IN HARTFORD. BY COURT RECORDS DENNIS KEARNS WAS NATURALIZED ON OCT 25, 1877.

Wish I could. Have had this gun for 45 years, and this is the only pic made and available right now. It is about a 85% nickeled gun with HR grips.

I love presentation engraved guns. It allows for historical research that would be unavailable otherwise.
