Just scored a OMM .22 Magnum!

Pretty pleased about this one. After talking with an expert on this forum, I understand there were only about 850 of these made. It dates to 1959. I may invest in a set of stags for it. Since, my sources also tell me the stocks are not correct for this model. We’ll see.......!

    Serial # 780xx

    Best,
    Charles

I seen a new one that still stands in my mind in .22 mag about that same time frame. It was at a store in Oshkosh Wisconsin. I believe as I recall, the grips were the same. Why do you think the grips are wrong? My first colt was also a .38 special OMM with those same grips. I bought it used from a los angeles county deputy in 1964 and it looked to be the same time frame.

Available catalog evidence and extensive Forum discussion places the phase-out of the full-checkered stocks sometime in 1960, so a 1959 gun should still have them, whereas a 1960 gun might not. (The stocks pictured appear very dark. Perhaps they could be "bleached" to a more original color.)

The OMM in .22WMR was introduced in 1959, the same year the .22WMR cartridge was introduced. My OMM in .22WMR (Number 787XX with original box and papers) was built on December 29, 1959 and shipped the same day as a single gun shipment to Omaha sporting goods store Osoff's, a store I was often in during that time frame to look at guns. I fantasize that I saw "my" revolver in the gun case during one of my visits. Sadly, Osoff's is long gone so I cannot try to get any sales records. I bought the gun in 1991 at an area gun show, so it never got far from home.

You need to letter the gun and ask for both the build and ship dates so as to contribute to the knowledge base of the serial number range and the build dates of these scarce guns. What is the serial number range of this example?

I have a 1959 22 mag OMM. I’ll have to go check what stocks are on it. I’ll post a picture later today.

A rare bird for sure. You don't see these very often. Great find for sure.
