    Railway Express Police Positive

I bought this Railway Express Police Positive several years ago. It does letter to the Railway Express Company. The only problem, it shipped with a 4" barrel and now has a 2 1/2" barrel. Shipping date was January 15, 1930 to Railway Express Agency Attn: W.C. Harwood. It also states, engraved "Ry. Exp. Co. I have posted several pictures of the barrel.

Here is a close-up of the barrel top. It clearly shows the barrel was cut.

Has someone cut the barrel and cleverly moved the front sight for re-use? You might want to look for a 4" barrel to replace it.

I had one of these 4" barrel pistols once. It is interesting how the letter says "Engraved", and this possibly means that the first guns to fill the order were engraved until a Barrel Roll could be made in the Special Order Shop.

Many of the Rwy Express Agency of 1930 had formerly worked for Adams Express, Wells Fargo, American Express, Pacific Express etc. The Government ordered this merger in about 1917 for national security reasons.

There is nothing clever about the cut barrel. I bought it knowing it was cut. Nothing was hidden. I like it the way it is. That is why I bought it. If and when I decide to sell the revolver, the next owner can do what they want. I think it is a cool piece.

I fully agree. The shorter barrel is far more cool than the 4" would be and it is now an integral part of the gun's history. Great piece!

I am no collector. A "shooter" Police Positive in .32 caliber with a cut-down 3" barrel would be very tempting to me.

Don't change it or add a 4" barrel! I like it!
So what the barrel was changed/cut/reduced, its a professional job & looks great! Really!!!!!
