    Did or do the Colt Model 1878 Revolvers also exist in a Target Variation?

    Been wondering a long time about this, finally asking!

    According to Wilkerson's book on 1878's, yes. 13 were listed in Colt's shipping records as targets. 12 in .450 and one in .32. The .450's were ordered by von Oppen in London in Oct of 1889. They were not a successful target gun.

    While the 'New Service' did take off well in the Target Models, of course...and pretty much right from the get-go.

    I'd love to see an 1878 Target or at least some good images showing the Sights and in general...Hard to guess how many of those "13" might still be around.

    With it's SAA barrel and ejector I'm guessing the sights look like a flat top single action.
