    USMC 1909 Trifecta

I'd like to share with you all my three USMC 1909 revolvers. As you may know in 1909 the Marine Corps ordered 1300 Colt New Service Revolver with a modified grip profile, checked wood grip panels, and chambered in .45 Long Colt. These revolvers were to replace the Colt New Army/Navy .38 which proved to be ineffective in stopping the Moros during the Philippine Insurrection. The Marine Corps 1909 Colts were serial numbered in the 23101-26300 serial number range and were stamped on the butt U.S.M.C. over No. xxxx. I won't go into detail concerning the butt numbering as it was in the beginning somewhat helter-skelter. Over the past ten years or so I have created a spreadsheet of every Marine Corps 1905 and 1909 serial numbers that I could find. During these searches a couple of incredible things occurred. My first USMC 1909 #26060 I traded for in 2009, my second one #26059 I purchased in 2013, and my third one #26058 I just purchased this month. Yes that is correct. Three consecutive serial numbered USMC Colt 1909 revolvers. I still find it difficult to believe that after 110 years and out of a small number of 1300 revolvers that saw hard use by the Marines that carried them, I was fortunate to find three consecutive serial numbers. Terrific threesome and thanks for sharing. With odds like that you need to buy a Lotto ticket. I have been lucky with two in a row but never three. I had to go and look at mine just in case it was a forth but it's #242.
