    Model 1917 Opportunity

A friend has this M1917 for sale. I currently have it for review. I’ve checked Gunbroker sold and searched our forum. Really not found anything in this type of condition. He’s asking $700.
    Your thoughts?

    It has some negative issues:
    * Appears the sideplate has been replaced. Significant amount of blue remains, whereas the frame and right side are rich in patina.
    * The barrel has “teeth” marks at top and bottom. Kinda like it was installed with a small pipe wrench.
    * Cut the lanyard loop off

    On the positive:
    * It has the US markings and Eagle with S20
    * The action is solid and timing is good
    * Minimal cylinder end play. Minimal forcing cone erosion.
    * Bore and rifling are very good

I say pass on it for that money. Too much wrong. It's in the shooter class and not worth the asking price. Maybe $500 considering its issues but no more.

I would not consider this one as collectible. Its value is only as a shooter. So, unless it cuts one ragged hold at the standard 21 feet, I would let your friend keep it.

You can find a rebuild for that kind of money, and at least it will have some legitimate military history.

Photo is out of focus, but does barrel have wrench/vise marks next to frame?

    Either way, take above advice.

    Thanks all for the advise.
