Well, today I was able to get my 1908 Pocket Hammerless’ little brother out of Gun Jail—a 1920 Model 1908 Vest Pocket 25 Auto. After a good scrubbing, I took it to the range and put 100 rounds of Magtech 50gr FMJ through it.

What a fun little gun! I found it comfortable and easy to shoot, although the very rudimentary sights combined with my failing eyesight and less-than-perfect indoor range lighting meant I wasn’t going to be producing any Gold Cup groups.

I had the original magazine plus a new Triple K mag, and the latter performed flawlessly. However I did have a fair number of jams with the factory magazine caused by the magazine catch failing and allowing the magazine to drop slightly under the substantial (not!) recoil. I can only assume that the magazine catch spring is a bit worn. As I was inserting the magazine with the slide fully forward, the top round was being compressed by the slide so I was having to fight the magazine spring to get it fully home.

I will have to investigate further but I suspect a new magazine catch spring would be a good idea. Wolff doesn’t seem to offer them, so where would one find such a thing? If you know please tell me!

I have to say I am very pleased at this purchase. I bought my 380 Pocket Hammerless on a whim, and this was even more whimsical as I noticed the seller had the 25 also and got him to throw in to the deal. I can say that if you are a fan of the ‘big’ Colt Hammerless autos and haven’t tried one of the diminutive 25 models, you’re missing out!

A wooden box of 03's and 08's is the most gangster thing ever. 1920's gangster that is.

    One is a lonely number.
A number to avoid if possible.
I haven't had "ONE" for many years.

Reminds me of a friend of mine in Las Vegas about 1970. Asked if I wanted to see a bushel basket full of Lugers. Well, yeah. He opened a closet door and sure enough, a bushel basket brimming with Lugers. God only knows what they were worth then, much less now.
