That looks like a genuine USGI 1911a1 slide made by Colt 1937-1945.
The markings look correct on the left side and are correctly blank on the right side.
The pictures make the slide look blue, if that is the case, it is likely prewar.
It looks to be in excellent condition. Please, don't cut it.
SM03, good point about the serial number in the firing pin stop area.
I don't see heat treat discoloration at the muzzle end nor at the slide stop notch, so the slide would be earlier rather than later in the date range and should have a serial number.
If there are no numbers at the firing pin hole and the colt horse has a "Pot Belly" look to it, its from a late 1944 pistol. If it were mine I'd definitely leave it alone.
No numbers at the firing pin hole; has 805 near the locking lugs.
