Hello Colt folks. I have googled with little real information, looking for the comparison between a 1911 Gold Cup vs Gold Cup lite. Thank you for your expertise.

If you are thinking of buying a new Gold Cup then hopefully you have looked at the Colt website.....

It will be interesting to see if the "Lites" show up there in the future. Last fall I bought one of the blued GCNMs in 9mm as I thought it might be a short run Lipsey exclusive but it is now on Colts Website. If you are out shopping for a NIB Gold Cup then there are a couple of others you may run into. First you may still find an older GCT in a LGS. I have one I bought in early 2016 and Colt says it was made in Oct 2015. I did replace the rubber wrap around grips with some wood stocks from Altamont in the picture below.

I don't know how long Colt made these GCTs. They do have the Series 80 mechanical firing pin safety in them. I also don't know how long it takes guns to move through various supply chains and distribution channels. Then there are LGSs at least down here where Colts are priced at MSRP or maybe a little over and sit for months and months without being sold.

Finally you may run into a Gold Cup Elite. It was/is a Colt/Talo limited edition with 500 being made. I looked at one last year. They are close to the older GCTs but do not have the Series 80 mechanical firing pin safety and of course a different model number and serial number sequence.
