    Magazine suggestions

New to Colt. Just picked up my first 1911....a colt m45 ion bond blue box. My question is about the magazines. It came with wilson combat mags and I was wondering if there are brands to stay away from?

I am sure that there are some magazine brands to avoid but to make it simple, stay with Wilson. They are the very best to be had. Chip McCormack is not bad but definitely second to Wilson.

Genuine Colt, Wilson Combat and Chip McComick Shooting Star magazines have never failed me. Chip McCormick has been sold to Wilsom Combat I believe.

I'm sure there are other good magazines available but I've not tried them all by any means...I do stick with what I know to be good. I also avoid those unmarked gun show magazines.

Mec-Gar is a manuafacturer for many of the major handgun companies. I have several of their blued 1911 mags. Never had a problem.
Also I own several of the Wilson mags aka Wilson-Rogers. https://www.brownells.com/magazines/...prod16398.aspx I used them for years in competition. Excellent quality, as attested to by our many knowledgeable forum members.

Stay with the brand name or OEM magazines.
    Wilson Combat as posted.
Metalform has been a Colt oem supplier for years their colt magazines have an "M" on them, although lately I do not see that code.
Check-Mate makes excellent magazines imo and is also a Colt oem supplier. "C" marked. The Check-Make follower is one of the best designed and is basically the Devel/Shooting Star follower with a skirt in front.
MecGar makes some nice magazines also, I prefer the standard type metal base plate over the ones with the gaudy plastic bottom.

Although I have no experience with them Tripp Research magazines are highly rated.

Quite a few after market magazines available and while the price may seem enticing good magazines are not that expensive.

I have some of each for my four Colt .38 Super pistols, and all seem to work just fine.

I also picked up an M45A1 this past week. Very nice gun.

I would also agree to that you should use Wilson Combat magazines with this. For this gun, they work extremely well. My Colt factory magazines also work well, although they're only 7-round magazines.

Unlike others, I can't recommend Chip McCormick magazines - I picked up one as a spare (they were out of Wilson Combat mags). It wouldn't fit into the gun. I thought it was because of the baseplate, but even after I took off the base, it still had problems. I tried it with other guns, and it still had the same problem.
