Colt Govt Model date of manufacture

I bought a Government Model and want to know when it was made. I put the serial number in at the Colt site, and it says serial number not found.

    293****

    Any suggestions?

Colt didn't make any Government Model pistols with a 2M serial range that I am aware of. How about posting some pictures of the pistol and the serial number? Then you'll get informed answers.

I believe in the early 80s,Colt made a full size Govt 45s with parked finish and the serial numbers started where WW2
production numbers stopped in 1945. I don’t know how high the numbers went. Pete

Seems like in the mid 1990's Colt produced some 1991A1 pistols in the 2.7 to 2.8 million serial number range, but don't remember them going to the 2.9 million range.

That’s not the right number. Wasn’t home and asked my kid to send it to me. I’m gonna have to check it when I get back.

Goes to show how much I know about the modern postwar era Colts. I'm always thinking prewar and postwar up to the Series 70.

Hmmm... back home now. The serial number I gave is the serial number. Puzzlement.

FWIW, my .38S Government O2991 I picked up last week is SN#2941xxx, no prefix, no suffix. I’ll be trying to get through to Colt tomorrow for more info, but from what I’ve been able to deduce from lots of reading this past week is a production date sometime in 2018.
