Interested in any information on the Colt Combat Govt. Model

I am receiving a custom build on what is believed to be an early 1980s production Series 70 Colt Combat Government Model (as the base gun). No sense commenting on the collectibility of an unmolested one - that ship has already saved. Work was done by one of the best shops in the business (Novak's). Just interested in any group info regarding the Combat Govt. I slightly recall them from way back, but did not have much interest at the time, as I had/still have all of my guns worked on, so collectibility has never been any concern. I know I can contact Colt - not interested in archive stuff, just general opinions/observations, etc.Thanks.

The Combat Government was not built in large numbers to my knowledge but I could be wrong on that. It was essentially a Government Model with then higher grade sights and a few custom enhancements that were common on custom builds and competition guns. It the later 1980s it was replaced by the Combat Elite which was essentially an identical pistol but was a blue slide over a stainless frame. The Combat Elite is a far more commonly seen pistol than the Combat Government.

One of my all time favorite shooters is my Combat Elite that Novak's worked their magic on for me. It's awesomely accurate and perfectly reliable.

Thanks for the quick reply. Looks good. Now all it needs is a properly fitted beavertail.
I have been a personal friend of Wayne (and a loyal customer) of Novak's since 1983.

    Colt Combat Government Model

The Colt Combat Government was produced in both Series 70 and Series 80 configurations. They were low production pieces that came out in 1983 near the end of the Series 70 era and carried over into the early stages of the Series 80 pistols. I've heard production numbers of approximately 2000 pistols in total between the 2 series. Note the spec sheet from Colt detailing the specific features included in the Combat Government Model. This model did eventually turn into the Combat Elite. Mine pictured is the Series 70 version.

Novak's does great work. The late Joe Bonar did the work on both my Combat Elite and Lightweight Commander.

I remember that $482.50 was too rich for me back in the 80s. Lucked out in 1996 and found a like new in the box one for about the same price! Added a little upgrade with Colt MOPs. I have some additional Colt Literature on this model if interested. Jackson

IRRC, Colt made only 500 of the Series 70's Combat Govt 45acp model. It took me a while to find a Series 70 Combat Govt Model back in the 80's.
Cool gun. These are nothing like some of the Target Models made currently or Level I, II or III Series made a couple of years ago.
